Who Am I Thankful For?

November 23, 2009

My Mom

My mom is always there for me when no one else is. She is the one i turn to for everything. She never tells me to “work it out on my own”, but is always by my side. I would consider my mom to be more than a mother but also a best friend. Sure, we have our fights but everything works itself out in the end. I love you mom.

My Dad

My dad has to be the strongest person I know. He always has the best advise and ideas. We connect on so many levels. Mentaly we have so many great talks. He takes me to hockey games across the world and never complains, but even gets involed in the games. My dad is definalty more than a father, but a true “Palie”!

My Friends

My friends are the best there are. Weather it be walking to my house in the poring rain to confert me, or swimming in the neighbors pool because we wanted to take a dip, everything just turns out right. Brendan, Megan, Gina, Carrie, Shannon, and Nicole are always there for me. We do the craziest stuff when we are together. There are so many words to describe our relationship, but by far the biggest and greatest would be love.

Cornered by Fear

November 9, 2009

I feel so violated. I ran and ran until I found sanctuary in the stuffy dark broom closet off the kitchen downstairs. Still and silent I remain, with barely enough room in this tiny overcrowded place. The wooden mop handles painfully jab me in my side, while the overwhelming smell of household chemicals adds to my nausea. I stifle my gagging, daring not move or cry, lest I be found out. I listen for sounds of his footsteps, but thankfully hear nothing but my own breathing. Who knows where he lurks. Here in this dark space I find safety…for now.

In my isolation, I hear myself asking; “Is it my fault? Did I do something to lead this on?” You’d think he’d leave me alone when my response is always the same; revulsion and fear. When I ask for help, I am completely dismissed. “Uncle Kevin?…No way! You must be imagining it. I won’t stand for talk like that…I will not hear of it. Are you crying out for attention?” Yet here in the deep blackness, thoughts of disgust are empowering me to take a stand, making me stronger. Jumping, I hear the back door slam and I realize that I am now alone. Time to take action! I promise myself that it will be different this time. This time I will seek help and be heard. I will not live in fear. A deep breath enters my lungs as I exit my hideout. I will be a victim no longer!

College Outlook

November 2, 2009

Where are you headed after high school? Most of you are probably thinking about college. Whether to either go to community or a university are major decisions in the scheme of things. You might be saying to yourself, “That’s so far away, I’m too young, I don’t need to worry about college.” That is where many people are wrong. College is approaching and it is your job to be prepared for all the new curve balls life is going to throw at you. So listen up, and hear the facts about choosing the right college for you.
One major factor in picking the right college for you are expenses. This is a topic that most family’s must talk about at some point. Or many you are paying for college all on your own. Either way, there are some big money savers you can use along the way. For one thing you can shop for books online. When you buy your textbooks online you can easily find bargain discounts. without all the hassle of campus stores.
Another way to still go the the college of your dreams and still fit the price is taking out a loan. Banks are always willing to give out loans to help students, at least if you have good credit and have no criminal history! Loans can be a good backup if money is tight. Something to remember though is to always pay back the loans. You never want to have student debt over your head. If you exceed your price by too much you might have this problem. Always look at the big picture.
Finally the last money saving tip is to plan ahead and save money in advanced. So, your a sophomore in high school, you hang-out with your friends, go shopping and play sports. Life is great. You have three years until graduation right? That’s so far away! Wrong. Another great way to save money is to start saving money now. Instead of spending all your birthday money some new clothes, put some of it toward college. Now, I’m not saying never spend your money, but I am saying to spend it wisely. The last thing you want to be doing is not going to college because you don’t have enough money to go. Plan ahead.
In conclusion, college is a great thing, but must be tackled with a plan of action. Look into your future, what do you see yourself doing? You should see college as just that final step to becoming that person you have always dreamed of. So take it seriously, and start thinking and exploring all the choices that lie ahead.

3. Making videos with my friend Brendan McGeown. Whenever I’m with my him we always document our day. It might seem kind of weird but we have been doing it forever! There like our home videos.

4. Joking around with my parents. Unlike most people I have a really great relationship with both of my parents. We talk about the most unimportant things and we love every minute of it.

5. Being in the locker room of my girls hockey team (Max, Holland, Ally, Amelia and Emily to name some). My hockey team has to be the best one around! I love the girls like they are my sisters! Its especially great when we win the game.

6. Playing with my pets. My house is like a zoo! I have two dogs, a bunny, a bird, two ginnie pigs, a hamster and a whole lot of fish!

7. When I had a team hot-tub party at my house and in the morning we all went to up-town in our pajamas.

8. Listening to the song “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls. I grew up listening to this song. I remember when I was younger and me and my friends at the time would pretend we were them. Years later, for my birthday my parents bought me tickets to the Reunion Concert and we all rocked out to the same songs we did when we were younger.

9. My friend Carrie Ann. She is outrageous! She just does the strangest things. We have been friends science we first started girl scouts back in the 1st grade.

Samoan islands shaken again

October 1, 2009

This article is about the second earth quake that happened in the Samoan islands. It took place in Leone, American Samoa on Wednesday, in an specific area that already had been hit by earthquake earlier. In addition to a tsunami which killed more than 130 people.
The earthquake measured at 5.5-magnitude, but didn’t trigger a tsunami warning. This is according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. About 139 people were confirmed dead as a result of Tuesday’s earthquake and tsunami. There was a very large emergency effort concerning the quake on late Wednesday. Officials said that the death toll might become larger as more and more rescue workers begin to go new towns and come upon casualties.
Keep in mind, not all hope is lost U.S. President Barack Obama made sure he addressed the earthquake and tsunami warning on Wednesday in Washington. He said words like, “We also stand ready to help our friends in neighboring Samoa and throughout the region, and we’ll continue to monitor this situation closely as we keep the many people who have been touched by this tragedy in our thoughts and in our prayers,”. Because of this tragic disaster many families have been broken up, so we must all bond together as a people, and help the people of Samoa.

Why St. Mary?

September 25, 2009

I chose to come to St. Mary because it is small. The only other school I looked at was Paramus Catholic but I felt it was too big for me. I enjoy the small and personal feeling that I got when I first came here. Even though I do not participate in any sports HERE, I am very school spirited. I am known to dress up and paint my whole face for spirit week and pep rally’s. I believe that if you are not school spirited you are most likely not happy where you are. SMHS CLASS OF 2012!!
