March 15, 2010

1. An audience is the group of people you are talking to.

2. The three different types of audiences can be determined by gender, religion and political partys.

3. If I was giving a presentation to high school students I would try to be very relaxed and free flowing. I would hold their attention by connection popular topics into the presentation. If I was giving a presentation to parents, I would more polite but still have a fun attitude. I would keep their attention by talking about their children. Finally, if I was giving a presentation to business men and women I would try and get to the point quicker and be very professional. I might talk about a popular product or what ever their field is in.

My Shopping List

March 2, 2010
  1. What struggles did you find while creating this budget sheet?
The struggles I found in creating this budget sheet were keeping my prices low. I had to substitute many items for a better price, and also take some off the list because they just weren’t necessities.
  2. Why is it important to try and find the meaning behind creating a budget for yourself when you go shopping?
It is important to try and find the meaning behind creating a budget for yourself when you go shopping because you can easily spend way past you’re budget in a store and you have to be realistic when shopping now a days.
  3. Do you think that you have more of an understanding as to how expensive food can be?
Yes, I do think I have more of an understand of how expensive food can be. When your a kid, you really do not have a very good concept of money. Now, I feel as if i do have a better understanding of how to budget my money and be successful at doing it.
  4. Did you enjoy this project and why?
I enjoy every project we do in this class. I feel as if everyone one of them teaches me a new lesson in not only computer technology, but in life skills. One thing I loved about this project in general is how it was unique to me.Lsolski_Shoprite

Billie Holiday

February 22, 2010

Elinore Harris was born on April 7, 1915 and is mostly know for being an American jazz singer and songwriter. She had a very hard life which leaded to a major drug addiction and prostitution. Eventually that imprisoned her for a short time. She began singing in the 1930′s and was admired for her deeply personal and intimate approach to singing. She was discovered at a club in 1933 by talent scout John Hammond.  Her vocal style was strong and brought about a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Later on she adopted the stage name of Billie Holiday. She was one of the first black people to perform with an all white band. Still battling a drug addiction, she moved on heavier drugs such a heroin which she later ended up in jail for. She became very poor and ended up dieing of liver failure on July 17, 1959.

    Social Media Revolution

    January 15, 2010

This video was quite amazing. I found it so strange that Ellen Degenerous (who I follow on twitter) has more followers then the population of Norway, Ireland, and Panama! It can be seen that technology has taken a great deal of priory in people’s lives. I do believe though that it will continue to progress to become an even greater force. Social Media is not a bad thing. Many people feel that it is doing people harm. I do not feel this way because it has taught me many things about the internet that I would not have known before. I grew up around technology because my brother is a computer genius. He actually broke Microsoft’s main computer password, and it landed him a job there! In conclusion I feel that the social media revolution is a good thing for the people because it will help us to progress into the near or far future.

    Trouble in Kenya

    January 11, 2010

Last week there was trouble in Nairobi, Kenya. It was recently reported that Kenya had deported a Jamaican-born Muslim cleric. Abdullah Ibrahim el-Faisal was was once imprisoned  in England for racial hatred. He was deported to Gambia, says Kenyan Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang.

Abdullah Ibrahim el-Faisal was said to be an unwanted person in Kenya by Otieno Kajwang. It was also said that he was a threat to Kenya’s security because of terrorism. Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe says, “Anti-terror police picked up Abdullah Ibrahim el-Faisal days ago after he passed into the country unnoticed”

El-Faisal has had a very bad criminal background. He was sentenced in England to nine years in jail in 2003 for racial hatred and inciting others to commit murder. He had also been arrested a year earlier. According to British news reports, he was paroled in 2007 after serving half his sentence and deported to Jamaica. His lawyers in England had asked the judge in his case to consider the Muslim convert “misguided rather than malicious.”

Later, El-Faisal entered Kenya from Tanzania, Kiraithe. The thing is,  it was not clear when. Kiraithe found that there had been lapses of time between Kenya’s police and immigration that allowed the El-Faisal to come into Kenya.

Kenyan Muslim groups have protested the deportation El-Faisal. Al-Amin Kimathi, the executive coordinator for the Muslim Forum of Human Rights, says “He is being treated unfairly…He has committed no crimes in Jamaica and has not committed any crimes in Kenya. There is a double standard at work.”

    Who Am I Thankful For?

    November 23, 2009

    My Mom

My mom is always there for me when no one else is. She is the one i turn to for everything. She never tells me to “work it out on my own”, but is always by my side. I would consider my mom to be more than a mother but also a best friend. Sure, we have our fights but everything works itself out in the end. I love you mom.

    My Dad

My dad has to be the strongest person I know. He always has the best advise and ideas. We connect on so many levels. Mentaly we have so many great talks. He takes me to hockey games across the world and never complains, but even gets involed in the games. My dad is definalty more than a father, but a true “Palie”!

    My Friends

My friends are the best there are. Weather it be walking to my house in the poring rain to confert me, or swimming in the neighbors pool because we wanted to take a dip, everything just turns out right. Brendan, Megan, Gina, Carrie, Shannon, and Nicole are always there for me. We do the craziest stuff when we are together. There are so many words to describe our relationship, but by far the biggest and greatest would be love.

    Cornered by Fear

    November 9, 2009

I feel so violated. I ran and ran until I found sanctuary in the stuffy dark broom closet off the kitchen downstairs. Still and silent I remain, with barely enough room in this tiny overcrowded place. The wooden mop handles painfully jab me in my side, while the overwhelming smell of household chemicals adds to my nausea. I stifle my gagging, daring not move or cry, lest I be found out. I listen for sounds of his footsteps, but thankfully hear nothing but my own breathing. Who knows where he lurks. Here in this dark space I find safety…for now.

In my isolation, I hear myself asking; “Is it my fault? Did I do something to lead this on?” You’d think he’d leave me alone when my response is always the same; revulsion and fear. When I ask for help, I am completely dismissed. “Uncle Kevin?…No way! You must be imagining it. I won’t stand for talk like that…I will not hear of it. Are you crying out for attention?” Yet here in the deep blackness, thoughts of disgust are empowering me to take a stand, making me stronger. Jumping, I hear the back door slam and I realize that I am now alone. Time to take action! I promise myself that it will be different this time. This time I will seek help and be heard. I will not live in fear. A deep breath enters my lungs as I exit my hideout. I will be a victim no longer!
